These guidelines outline the conventions that govern the practice of Cabinet and collective decision-making in NSW.

About NSW Cabinet conventions

Cabinet is a central part of decision making within NSW Government. Cabinet conventions refer to a set of informal and unwritten rules that govern the functioning of the Cabinet. These conventions outline:

  • who is part of Cabinet
  • what Cabinet is responsible for
  • how Cabinet decisions are recorded and implemented
  • when Cabinet can and cannot make decisions.
