Strategic Plan

Our ambitious Strategic Plan sets out what we aim to achieve as a department and how we will achieve it.

The plan outlines our vision and purpose, outcomes and focus areas, and provides a clear framework for delivery across the department.

Developed through extensive consultation with staff and stakeholders, the plan keeps us focused on the challenges and opportunities facing NSW, while continuing to deliver on government priorities and community expectations.

Vision

Our vision is to create thriving environments and communities for every generation.

Together we take action and empower others to: 

• act on climate change to achieve net zero
• adapt to climate change
• secure clean, reliable and affordable energy
• protect, restore and enhance the natural environment
• sustain and improve water resources
• conserve and celebrate culture and heritage.

Our Secretary

Anthony Lean is the Secretary of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). In his role, Anthony oversees a diverse portfolio to protect the state’s natural resources, environment and heritage as well as leading the way on climate change, driving the sustainable transition to a net zero economy and powering affordable, reliable, and clean energy.

Anthony is a highly respected public sector leader with more than 20 years of senior executive experience. He has an exemplary track record of overseeing complex organisations and programs, setting strategic vision and delivering results.

He has an extensive career in leadership and legal positions within the NSW public sector, including at the Office of Environment and Heritage, State Insurance Regulatory Authority and the former NSW Department of Finance, Services and Innovation.

The DCCEEW structure is organised into 6 core divisions, supported by specialist agencies and statutory entities delivering water, environment, energy, climate, parks, policy, and corporate services outcomes.
