Aboriginal Procurement Policy
The current Aboriginal Procurement Policy (APP) started on 1 January 2021 and aims to:
- support job opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- support growth in the capability and capacity of Aboriginal businesses by increasing
Government procurement from Aboriginal businesses.
The policy mechanisms that support Aboriginal businesses and employment include:
- specific NSW Government agency spend and contract targets
- a minimum requirement for Aboriginal participation on all contracts valued $7.5 million and above
- recommending NSW Government agencies give first consideration to Aboriginal businesses for procurements up to $250,000, even if there is a mandated prequalification scheme or panel in place, and allowing them to procure directly from Aboriginal businesses up to $250,000.
APP Review
In 2023, a review of the APP evaluated the APP’s effectiveness and explored potential improvements. The review synthesised the diversity of stakeholder views into proposed actions, providing recommendations to help better achieve the APP objective of growing NSW’s First Economy.
