Emerging researchers showcase findings at program graduation
Southern's Dr Corin Miller, Lola Erinle and Cathie Matthews are celebrating their graduation from NSW Health's Rural Research Capacity Building Program (RRCBP).
The researchers presented their findings as part of the Emerging Researchers Showcase and graduation, held in Sydney on 6 February 2025.
Their research projects addressed key challenges in rural health care, focusing on improving services and collaboration:
- Dr Corin Miller: 'Redefining services for rural children and youth: rural school-based integrated care'
- Omolewa Omolola Erinle: 'Exploring the meaning of collaboration in rural mental health care delivery from the perspectives of mental health clinicians and informal carers of people living with a mental health illness'
- Cathie Matthews: 'Rural health professionals and early childhood education services working together to support 2-year-olds’ communication development in rural New South Wales'
The implementation and translation of their research projects is influencing health service delivery, health outcomes and research expertise across rural NSW and beyond.
The two-year experiential research program, facilitated by the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI), aims to increase the number of rural and remote health workers with knowledge and skills in evaluation and research methods. It also aims to contribute to the literature on both innovation and evidence-based practice around rural and remote health care. Almost 200 rurally located NSW health staff have undertaken the program since it commenced in 2006.
