Disaster relief and support for local councils
NSW Government provides financial relief and support services for eligible local councils following a natural disaster.
Some types of support require a disaster declaration for the affected location. Disaster declarations are determined and updated on a rolling basis.
Assistance to restore public infrastructure and assets
Assistance is available to local councils to restore essential public assets that have been damaged as a direct result of a natural disaster.
For assistance to restore public roads, road infrastructure and bridges, council should contact their regional representative in Transport for NSW.
For assistance to restore other essential public assets, councils should contact their regional representatives in Public Works Advisory.

Waste from a natural disaster becomes eligible for an exemption from the levy upon the declaration of a natural disaster by the relevant state government authority. The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) can approve an exemption from the Waste Levy for waste arising from a natural disaster.
Who is eligible?
assistance is only provided to eligible local councils following the declaration of a Natural Disaster by the NSW Government
waste must have been generated as a result of a natural disaster within an LGA listed in the Natural Disaster Declaration.
