The new Drama, Drama Life Skills, Music 1, Music 2, Music Extension and Music Life Skills 11–12 syllabuses are now available on the NSW Curriculum website.
Schools can now plan and prepare to teach the new 11–12 syllabuses. The new syllabuses will be implemented in NSW schools in 2027.
Key features
- The new Drama and Music 11–12 syllabuses provide students with strong discipline-based knowledge and skills, making clear what is essential for students to know, understand and be able to do.
- In their study of Music in 11–12, students engage in performance, composition, listening and analysis. Explicit syllabus content promotes technical skill development and student engagement with Music knowledge and practice. New focus areas in all syllabuses give students the opportunity to study a broad range of styles and genres and offer teachers and students flexibility in repertoire and instrumental choices.
- In the Drama 11–12 syllabuses, students develop as creative artists and thoughtful audiences, exploring imagined roles, ideas and stories and developing, refining and shaping dramatic works that express emotion and create meaning for an audience. The new syllabuses include clearly defined outcomes and content engaging students through the central and interrelated practices of making, performing and critically reflecting.
- For the first time there is a dedicated Life Skills 11–12 Syllabus aligned to each of the disciplines. Previously, content related to Drama and Music was a part of a stream within the Creative Arts Life Skills Stage 6 Syllabus.
Schools can access support materials, including teaching advice, on the NSW Curriculum website to assist with implementation. More resources will be made available over time.
