Using CORSnet-NSW

Accuracy of CORSnet-NSW data
Where Network RTK coverage is available, CORSnet-NSW should provide accuracies at the 2 cm level. Single-base RTK will also provide accuracies at the 2 cm level within about 20 km from the base. The further you are from the base, the less accurate Single‑base RTK becomes. A typical limit for RTK solutions is 50 km. Sub-metre solutions are available across NSW.
Mobile coverage and access
You can see mobile coverage maps on your provider's website.
Even in places where a phone call can't be made, CORS data can often still be accessed. You can improve your reception by using an external antenna or a radio bridge.

Using CORSnet-NSW data
CORSnet‑NSW gives you flexible, on‑demand positioning solutions. You don’t need your own base station. If you already have a base station, you may be able to use it as a second rover to double productivity.
CORSnet‑NSW supports satellite systems, including GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS.
With CORSnet‑NSW you get immediate connectivity to GDA94 or GDA2020.
All sites are coordinated through Regulation 13 certification.
CORSnet‑NSW replaces the need for your own base station and will work as you move between sites.
Because you don’t need a base station at every site, construction machines can be used more efficiently to increase productivity.
Correction data is sent via mobile internet. Radios and radio licencing are only needed if you have to extend mobile reception.
CORSnet‑NSW supports satellite systems, including GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS.
Roaming solutions, such as nearest base and Network RTK solutions, let you use the same settings anywhere within the CORSnet‑NSW network.

Managing the CORS
A Regulation 13 Certificate is issued for every CORSnet‑NSW installation. It’s issued by Geoscience Australia, which is accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA). The certificates are usually available 3 to 4 months after installation. It’s valid for 5 years and includes verified and accurate GDA2020 coordinates. The verification process ensures that the CORSnet-NSW site meets legal national measurement standards:
- the National Measurement Regulation 1999
- the National Measurement Act 1960. This helps users show that their GNSS position data is legally traceable.

Download Regulation 13 certificate example (PDF 85.81KB)A local tie survey connects a CORS to the Survey Control Network and Survey Control Information Management System (SCIMS). It ensures the CORS it ensures it fits into the local survey network so we know its exact position and height.
A local tie survey is done for every CORS to:
- link it to nearby survey marks, known as the geodetic survey network
- to measure height, known as local AHD71 heights.
Spatial Services surveyors carry out these surveys using best practice GNSS methods. This links and adjusts each CORS to the surrounding ground control network in the national dataset, the GDA2020.
Surveyors use high‑quality local survey control marks and process them in a 3D network, which links the CORS to the existing ground control network.
Local base station status
You can check live status of all CORS in the network from our web portal.
If the CORS is displayed with a yellow or red icon it means the CORS is not available.
For extended outage that may span multiple days, we also issue an alert via the RSS feed.
Connection issues in the field
Find advice on common connection issues when in the field.
Contact your reseller who can assist with your rover dial-up process.
Check that you are using the correct settings on your rover. This includes
- NtripCaster address
- port number
- mountpoint name
- login name
- password
The NtripCaster address must be corsnet.nsw.gov.au with port number:
- 2101 for GDA94 coordinates; or
- port 2020 for GDA2020 coordinates.
If you are still having issues, contact CORSnet-NSW Customer Support. We will check your login name and password, subscription status and also simulate a connection using your login details to confirm.
Common problems are:
- incorrect login name or password
- locked account (due to invalid multiple attempts)
- expired subscription or
- attempt to connect more than one rover.
If you are using the VRS or Nearest-CORS service, ensure your rover is configured for VRS so that it will send its position to our system.
This could indicate the following:
- poor mobile internet coverage.
- poor sky view and hence poor tracking of GNSS satellites at the rover.
Subscriptions
Checking your subscription status
You can check your active subscriptions and expiration details online by following these steps:
- Log into CORSnet-NSW.
- Click on 'Active Subscriptions'. All your active subscriptions will be shown.
- Determine the expiry date based on the subscription length and start date or the time remaining values.
Our system notifies users via email at:
- 35 days before expiration
- 10 days before expiration
- expiration.
Renewing your subscription
To renew your subscription, please contact your reseller.
