North Coast

9 temporary accommodation sites now in Northern Rivers

The NSW Government is supporting people impacted by the recent floods to establish temporary housing for those who are unable to return home.

Temporary accommodation sites are planned for 9 different locations:

1. Wollongbar Sports Fields, Wollongbar;

2. Adjacent to Tweed Holiday Parks, Pottsville North;

3. Bath Street, Wardell;

4. Park Street, Evans Head;

5. Booyong Street, Evans Head;

6. Alphadale Street, Lindendale;

7. Southern Cross University, Lismore

8. The corner of Wagner and Uralba Streets, Woodburn; and

9. Lismore Golf Course, East Lismore.

There are plans for more than a dozen temporary housing sites across the Northern Rivers.

How long will the temporary housing sites be available for? 

18 months to 2 years, depending on community need.

In addition to these modular homes, there is a range of other temporary housing options, including motorhomes, accommodation in recreation camps, and 16-week rental support.

Shuttle buses to local recovery centres

There are a range of temporary transport options for flood-impacted people needing face-to-face support from experts at flood recovery centres.

People can also seek online support using the Disaster Assistance Finder or call Service NSW Call 13 77 88 for assistance 7am to 10pm.

Extra skip bins to remove flood waste 

The NSW Government has deployed extra skip bins – also called satellite skips – to add extra capacity for waste removal.

These skip bins are only for non-rotting household waste and non-hazardous materials and are usually accessible by road with a car and trailer.

The bins are to be used only for mud-covered hard waste items and are available at:

  • Casino, QLD Road, 5 skips
  • Casino, Ellangowan Road, 5 skips
  • Coraki, Richmond Terrace – near public toilets, 4 skips
  • Coraki, Richmond Terrace Coraki – across from SPA, 6 skips
  • Woodburn, Duke Street between Richmond Street and Redwood Lane, 6 skips.

Local roads repaired

Waterfall Way has reopened to single lane traffic west of Thora after a massive landslip blocked access during the extreme weather that impacted the North Coast early this month.

33 schools have staffing secured

The NSW Government is making 33 schools in the Northern Rivers region eligible for Disaster Supplementation for the remainder of 2022.  

This will secure teaching and support staff numbers, despite fluctuating enrolments. Read more in flood-affected schools have staff numbers secured.
