Program objective
The Multicultural NSW Stronger Together Project Grants Program supports multicultural projects that meet a community need at the grassroots level and support community harmony across New South Wales.
This program is administered by Department of Communities and Justice.
Eligibility
Who can apply
Eligible applicants for a Multicultural NSW Stronger Together Project Grant must be one of the following:
- Incorporated under the Associations Incorporations Act
- Company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001
- Cooperative registered under Cooperatives Act 1992
- Incorporated by an Act of Parliament
- Corporate trustee of a trust that has deductible gift recipient status under the Commonwealth Taxation laws
- An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth) or a Local Aboriginal Land Council under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW)
Types of projects funded under this grant
The Multicultural NSW Stronger Together Project Grants Program supports multicultural projects that meet a community need at the grassroots level and support community harmony across New South Wales.
Projects must:
- be delivered in NSW
- show how the project will measure outcomes
- outline how the project is cost-effective and viable with an accurate budget
When the project can start and end
Funding is available for projects delivered between 1 January 2027 and 31 December 2027
The project should be started by 1 January 2027 and the project must be completed by 31 December 2027.
Who can’t apply
Grant funding will not be awarded to any of the following organisations:
- Federal, State or Local Government Department and associated agencies
- individuals and sole traders
- For profit organisations and commercial enterprises
What co-contributions are required
Multicultural NSW strongly encourages co-contributions from applications towards the project. It is unlikely that an application will receive a grant if there is no co-contribution.

- Organisation certificate of registration
Successful applicants will be required to provide the following documents to enable the payment of the grant:
- A copy of the organisation’s most recent financial statements for the year ending 2025 or 2026. Older financial statements will not be accepted. The statements must be approved and signed by the authorised delegate(s), with their name, position and signature clearly visible, and include the auditor’s contact details, in accordance with the requirements of the organisation’s constitution
- Copy of the organisation's constitution
- A copy of the Certificate of Currency Public Liability Insurance
- Banking details of the organisation to which the grant will be remitted
Address the eligibility criteria
Each applicant, as part of an application response, must confirm that they meet the eligibility criteria.
Applicants that do not address the eligibility criteria in full may be excluded from the application process at the department's discretion.

- Applicants need to register with SmartyGrants to apply. If the organisation has used SmartyGrants to apply for a grant with Multicultural NSW before, they will already be registered.
- Applications that are not submitted online through the Multicultural NSW SmartyGrants portal before the closing date (Monday 14 September 2026, 4pm) will not be progressed for assessment.
- Attachments can be uploaded through the online application form.
Note: If you are a new applicant to SmartyGrants, you will need to register and create a password. If you are already registered, you can log in with your existing username and password.

After the application is submitted
Successful applications will be decided by: Minister for Multiculturalism
- Applications are checked for eligibility.
- Eligible applications are assessed against the criteria.
- Applications are considered for funding and a recommendation is made to the Minister for Multiculturalism
- Applicants are advised of the outcome
Note: Multicultural NSW always receives more funding requests than the amount of funding available. Successful applications will be of a high standard. The limited funding pool and competitive assessment process mean that even strong, well-prepared applications cannot always be supported. Due to the high volume of applications, Multicultural NSW only provides general feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
Anticipated assessment outcome date is November 2026
Anticipated date for funding deed execution with successful applicants is December 2026
