Program objective
The Program will deploy solar and battery microgrid infrastructure, together with community-scale energy resilience solutions, across remote communities in Far West NSW. These investments will provide reliable electricity supply, enabling communities to maintain power during network outages and reducing the impacts of prolonged disruptions.

What was approved
Approved for Essential Energy
The proposal has put forward three options to enhance the resilience in the Far West, with each option comprising resilience solutions at Tibooburra, Milparinka, Packsaddle and White Cliffs. The preferred option (Option 1) that we have proposed includes three projects (solutions at Tibooburra, Milparinka and Packsaddle) which are commissioned and operational by 31 Dec 2028. The final project under this option (the solution at White Cliffs) is scheduled to be commissioned and operational by 31 Dec 2029. The alternative options (Option 2 and Option 3) each include three projects (solutions at Tibooburra, Milparinka and Packsaddle) that will be commissioned and operational by 31 Dec 2028, however, in each option the solution proposed for White Cliffs would not be commissioned and operational until 31 Dec 2032. While we acknowledge that this is beyond the required dates outlined in the grant guidelines, Essential Energy proposes to implement an interim solution that would ensure reliability from 2028 to 2032. Once the microgrid at Tibooburra is commissioned, there is an option to re-deploy the generator currently at Tibooburra to White Cliffs as an interim solution between 2028 and 2032. This will ensure reliability at White Cliffs once the Transgrid generators reach end of life. This interim reliability option is not part of this grant-funded scope of works and would be Essential Energy regulated funded.
