What’s this about?

The Subordinate Legislation Act 1989 requires regulations to be continually reviewed. When a regulation is due for repeal, the responsible agency must generally review the regulation, its social and economic impacts, and the need for the regulation. The agency must then make a decision about whether the regulation should be remade. The results of this review are required to be published in a Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) and submissions are invited from the public.

This RIS proposes that the existing Health Practitioner Regulation (New South Wales) Regulation 2016 be remade, subject to proposed amendments, in the Draft Health Practitioner Regulation (New South Wales) Regulation 2025 (Draft Regulation).

The Draft Regulation relates to the following:

• the infection control standards that apply to relevant registered health practitioners
• the record keeping requirements that apply to medical practitioners and medical service corporations
• the standards for pharmacy premises
• the composition of the health professional councils.

The Ministry welcomes feedback on the Draft Regulation.
