Fines Amendment
What’s this about?
Since the commencement of ticketed parking reforms on 1 July 2025, NSW has seen a significant shift towards a fairer, more transparent and more accountable parking fine system. These reforms require parking fines to be attached to the vehicle except in certain circumstances.
The NSW Government is now seeking feedback on a potential refinement to the current provisions that require a notification of a parking offence which must be left on a vehicle.
The NSW Government is seeking feedback on the consultation draft of the proposed amendments to the Fines Regulation 2025, which will:
- Require appropriate officers to exit their vehicle and make a reasonable attempt to attach a notification before relying on the ‘vehicle moved’ exception, and
- Require appropriate officers to record details of the circumstances when relying on the ‘vehicle moved’ exception, and
- Clarify that when it is unsafe to attach a notification because of a vehicle’s location, the exception applies only where there is an immediate risk to the officer’s safety.
