What’s this about?

The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is developing a new floodplain management plan for the Lachlan Valley floodplain and is seeking your feedback.

Floodplain management plans set the rules for flood work development on floodplains in rural areas. The rules include what type of flood works can be constructed and where. 

Stage 2 public exhibition provides an opportunity for community feedback on the proposed management zones, and associated rules and criteria for granting or amending flood work approvals.

Appointments will be held online and in Booligal, Condobolin, Cowra, Forbes, Hillston and Lake Cargelligo from Monday 19 to Thursday 29 October 2026.

Water sharing plan prescribed wetlands map

During your appointment, you can also provide feedback on the updated prescribed wetlands map for the Lachlan Unregulated River Water Sources which is on public exhibition at the same time, from 6 October to 16 November 2026.

The updated map shows additional persistent wetland areas that reflect a subset of the proposed management zone SP areas in the draft floodplain management plan.
