Updated Biodiversity Assessment Method

What’s this about?

Changes to the Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) are required to:

• incorporate recent amendments to the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016
• incorporate proposed amendments to the Biodiversity Conservation Regulation 2017
• respond to recommendations resulting from the 5-year review of the BAM. 

These reforms are part of the Government’s broader strategy to set biodiversity in NSW on a path to recovery. See the  NSW Plan for Nature for more information.

The proposed changes to the BAM aim to:

• improve the biodiversity outcomes of the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme
• increase transparency in planning and decision-making
• reduce complexity for proponents and assessors.
