What’s this about?
Changes to the Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) are required to:
- incorporate recent amendments to the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016
- incorporate proposed amendments to the Biodiversity Conservation Regulation 2017
- respond to recommendations resulting from the 5-year review of the BAM.
These reforms are part of the Government’s broader strategy to set biodiversity in NSW on a path to recovery. See the NSW Plan for Nature for more information.
The proposed changes to the BAM aim to:
- improve the biodiversity outcomes of the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme
- increase transparency in planning and decision-making
- reduce complexity for proponents and assessors.
