About Check-In
Check‑In is a simple, self-service option used in NSW Health hospitals and community health services to allow patients and visitors to let the clinic know they have arrived for an appointment, walk-in service or visit. It improves the arrival and waiting experience, using a combination of Check-In kiosks, SMS notifications and an online Check-In Patient Portal (for booked appointments).
How Check-In works
When you arrive at a NSW Health hospital or community health service, you can check in:
- at a Check-In kiosk
- online (for some booked appointments)
- with reception staff.
After checking in, you will receive a ticket number and instructions on what to do next.
If you have provided a mobile number, you will receive SMS updates about when and where to go for your appointment. Waiting area screens also show ticket numbers when patients or visitors are being called.
Using the Check-In Patient Portal
If you have a booked appointment at a participating clinic, you will be able to use the Check-In Patient Portal on your mobile phone, tablet or computer, to manage appointment related activities before and after your visit.
Through the portal, you can:
- view upcoming appointments
- request to reschedule or cancel an appointment
- receive messages and information from your clinic
- complete forms before or after your appointment
- check in online when you arrive (for some clinics)
- receive notifications when it is time for your appointment.
The Check-In Patient Portal is web based and can be accessed on your mobile phone, tablet or computer.
Benefits of Check-In
Check-In helps you:
- prepare for your appointment and know what to expect
- receive clear reminders, guidance and updates
- experience a smoother arrival, check in and waiting process
- stay informed and reduce uncertainty while you wait
- communicate more easily with clinics and health services.
