A new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) unit at Nepean Hospital will support young people aged 12 to 17 who live in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
In February 2023, Donnelley Constructions was chosen to build this purpose-designed 10-bed facility. It will be next to the Nepean Mental Health Unit. Construction is now complete and operational commissioning is underway.
Young people and their families helped design the unit. It will be a safe and welcoming place for therapy and support, helping staff meet each person’s needs.
This facility is part of the $700 million Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program. The program supports mental health reform across NSW.

Benefits
The project will:
- offer complete, person-centred care to help young people manage their mental health at home
- be a key service for Western Sydney and part of a growing state-wide mental health network
- sit next to the Triage and Assessment Centre to make care more efficient
- include a separate entry and drop-off area so staff can deliver timely care in a private setting.
Scope
The facility will include:
- 10 single bedrooms with private bathrooms
- a secure indoor area and private outdoor courtyard
- consultation rooms
- a sensory room, learning centre and media room
- areas for staff support and administration.
