Wagga Wagga Health Service is the largest health redevelopment project in regional NSW. The project increased the hospital's capacity and capability to deliver a high standard of care.
Project information
The $282.1 million redevelopment includes $215 million from the NSW Government and $55.1 million from the Commonwealth Government's Health and Hospitals Fund.
A further $12 million was allocated from the Australian Government under the COAG New Acute Beds Guarantee for 20 sub-acute mental health beds.
Scope
The project delivered:
- 50 bed mental health unit
- new Acute Services Building (ASB) including emergency and imaging departments, operating theatres, women's and children's inpatient units, new intensive care and high dependency units, angiography suites, additional inpatient beds, geriatric evaluation rehabilitation departments and a rooftop helipad
- relocated and improved mortuary, drug and alcohol service, loading dock and asset maintenance areas
- expansion of the existing renal department building to include two bariatric and two training chairs
- demolition of the existing clinical hospital which is a six-storey tower building, and construction of a new on-grade car park
- upgrades to the main entrance and public amenities
- new pathology unit.
