In response to the devastating 2022 floods, the Community Resilience Grants Program was created to support long-term recovery across the Northern Rivers.
Thanks to a $1 million investment from the Reconstruction Authority, and in partnership with the Northern Rivers Community Foundation, 20 grassroots organisations received funding to deliver essential services, ranging from material aid and housing support to mental health care and social connection.
This grant strengthened RUKI’s role as a key place-based resilience organisation, opening opportunities to collaborate on broader initiatives such as Spontaneous Volunteers and Flood to Flourish—a partnership with Monash University funded by the Disaster Resilience Fund. They are also developing a ‘how-to’ guide to help other community hubs establish their own tool libraries.
Resilient Uki's story:
We have come out the other side with being a much better connected community and definitely a much better prepared community.
