Searching Employees Policy

The purpose of this policy is to inform employees of the expectations regarding the use of lawful search powers to combat trafficking in contraband and to prevent the removal of property from Youth Justice workplaces without authorisation.

Authority to search Youth Justice Centre employees is governed by Clause 153 of The Children (Detention Centres) Regulation 2015 and the Children (Detention Centres) Act 1987. 

This policy specifies who can and cannot be searched. It also outlines:

  • the types of searches to be conducted
  • how a search is to be conducted
  • the authority to conduct a search
  • the recording and storing of search information
  • complaints relating to the use and execution of searches.
