Psychiatry Arbitration with doctors’ union
The Staff Specialist Psychiatry Arbitration will now proceed after being delayed due to industrial action by the Australian Salaried Medical Officers’ Federation (ASMOF) in contravention of the orders of the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC).
ASMOF has today undertaken to suspend industrial action in compliance with the order of the IRC.
We welcome their decision, which provides greater certainty for all patients as well as our broader community.
NSW Health will press for arbitration of the ongoing wages dispute for all other medical officers including JMOs and Staff Specialists before the IRC on Monday.
The independent industrial umpire – which unions asked for – allows us to resolve the industrial claims while protecting the welfare of our community.
Doctors this week reminded all of us what we already know all too well – they are critical to the health and safety of our community.
We also acknowledge the challenging conditions they work under.
We will abide by whatever the independent umpire decides.
