The NSW Government is very concerned to hear that Tomago has started consultation with employees on the potential future of its operations at the smelter.

We recognise this is uncertain and distressing news for workers, families and the wider Hunter community, and we know many people will be deeply concerned about what this means for their future.

The NSW Government has been engaging closely with Tomago Aluminium and the Commonwealth Government for months on the future of the smelter.

We remain committed to ongoing discussions with Tomago Aluminium, the Commonwealth Government and key stakeholders, including unions, about the future of the smelter, and to supporting future manufacturing in the Hunter.
