Health Infrastructure in partnership with Hunter New England Local Health District will redevelop the Moree Hospital to provide upgraded facilities and modern clinical services.
The Moree Hospital will continue to function as a District Hospital and remain networked to Tamworth Hospital for access to specialist services.

A significant milestone has been achieved on the Moree Hospital Redevelopment, with concrete poured to set the ground floor of the new acute services building.
Smoking ceremony held on Moree project site
Prior to the construction of the new hospital building, the Moree Hospital Redevelopment project team recently held a smoking ceremony onsite.

The project will:
- offer contemporary facilities to support best practice models of care
- provide patients, families and carers a first-class facility to meet the health needs of the community now into the future.
Scope
The redevelopment will include:
- a new 2-storey acute services building on the existing hospital campus
- a new main entry and front of house
- an Emergency Department with new ambulance bays
- operating theatres and a CSSD (Central Sterile Services Department)
- medical imaging and pathology
- maternity, birthing and inpatient unit
- kitchen, stores and back-of-house with loading dock.
Planning process
Health Infrastructure has engaged a specialist project team to undertake the detailed planning and design for the Moree Hospital Redevelopment (Redevelopment).
As of March 2025, the project team includes:
- RP Infrastructure as Project Manager
- Hutchinson Builders as Principal Contractor (builder)
- MBM Pty Ltd as Cost Manager
The Redevelopment's planning and design process will be collaborative, involving:
- clinicians and hospital staff
- patient groups
- local stakeholders and the community.
Planning approval
The project received planning approval in January 2025, an important step in finalising the planning and design phase.

Master plan
The Redevelopment's Master Plan includes a new building on the existing site and the refurbishment of the existing inpatient building.
Concept design
The concept design for the $80 million Moree Hospital Redevelopment was released in July 2022.
The project team consulted on the concept design with staff, council and the community between July and August 2022 in Moree and online. The project design was updated and finalised in July 2023.

Schematic design
The schematic design was released in August 2023. It was developed in collaboration with staff and feedback from stakeholders and the community consultations held between July and September 2023.
