State Records NSW has moved to nsw.gov.au
We are pleased to announce we have completed our transition to www.nsw.gov.au/nsw-government/public-sector/recordkeeping.
This move is part of the all-of-government OneCX Program, which brings together more accessible, customer-focused and easier to navigate content.
What’s new?
Improved design
We’ve uplifted and rearranged our content to follow a more intuitive structure.
Improved search tool
New search functionality now makes navigating our content easier than ever.
Increased accessibility
We have simplified language on our pages whilst maintaining the integrity of the content and have converted some of our most frequently accessed retention and disposal authorities to HTML.
To ensure a seamless experience, we have temporary redirects in place from our old website at staterecords.nsw.gov.au to our new website. Please update any bookmarks and URL references to ensure that you continue to access the relevant content.
For more information or to provide feedback, please contact govrec@staterecords.nsw.gov.au.
Records Managers Forums
Bookings are now open to attend one of our in-person Records Managers Forums in March 2025.
In-person only forum at Dubbo, 6 March 2025
Hybrid forum at Museum of Sydney, 18 March 2025
State Records NSW and Museums of History NSW will be sharing updates that are relevant to staff working in records and information management, and related fields, in NSW public offices.
The forums will take a slightly different format to previous years with the first session relevant to staff from all public office types, followed by a second session targeted specifically at local government representatives.
Records Managers’ Forums are free events for NSW public office employees. The Sydney forum will be livestreamed, and a recording will also be made available on our website.
New standards and renewed Code of Best Practice
On 14 February 2025, State Records NSW will issue the following new:
- Standard on records management
- Standard on the physical storage of State records
We will also renew AS ISO 15489.1: 2017 Information and documentation - Records management, Part 1: Concepts and principles as the Code of Best Practice.
Formal communication will go out to chief executives, senior responsible officers and records management contacts on 14 February to notify public offices of the change.
Revised disposal authority for local government records
On 14 February 2025, State Records NSW will issue the Functional authority for local government records (FA450)
FA450 replaces the General retention and disposal authority: local government records (GA39) which has been in place since 2011.
PDF, Excel and HTML versions of FA450 will be made available on our website from 14 February. We will also provide mapping tables and an FAQs document to support the implementation of this new disposal authority.
Formal communication will go out to general managers, senior responsible officers and records and information management contacts on 14 February to notify councils of the change.
