What inclusive communication means
Inclusive communication is about creating messages that are clear, respectful, and representative of diverse communities. It ensures that everyone - regardless of background, identity, language, culture, or ability - can access and understand important information.
It is more than good practice; it is a responsibility. The role of NSW Government communication professionals is to design communications that reflect the diversity of our state and remove barriers to participation. By making our communications inclusive and accessible, we promote equity, strengthen trust, and make it easier for everyone to use government services.
Advertising to multicultural and Aboriginal audiences
Multicultural and Aboriginal audiences must be considered in all government advertising campaigns. Where possible and suitable, multicultural and Aboriginal media outlets should be used for government messaging to reach diverse communities.
Communication professionals advertising on behalf of NSW Government are responsible for ensuring the NSW Government Multicultural and Aboriginal Advertising Policy is followed. This policy requires at least 9% of an advertising campaign's media budget to be spent on direct communications to multicultural and Aboriginal audiences.
