The NSW Counter Terrorism Strategy outlines the principles and objectives to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from terrorism in NSW.
It is an update to the previous strategy released in 2020, reflecting new and emerging threats including:
- a small but growing number of young people on pathways to violent extremism
- the role of the internet in increasing exposure to extremist content
- the use of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drones being used overseas as a method to undertake propaganda and terrorism attacks
- the lowering barriers of entry to commit terrorism, such as lone actors undertaking low-technology, high-impact attacks
- the increasing presence of nationalist, racist and politically motivated violent extremists.

This strategy is strategically aligned with the Australian Government’s terrorism and violent extremism strategy in acknowledgement of the need to present cross-government and jurisdiction efforts.
