The Private Native Forestry Codes of Practice (PNF Codes) guide forestry operations being conducted under a Private Native Forestry Plan in NSW.
PNF Codes contain provisions for:
PNF Codes support the long-term sustainable management of native forests on private land and Crown land (other than land excluded by section 60ZS of the Local Land Services Act 2013 for timber production and ecologically sustainable forest management.
There are four Private Native Forestry Codes and associated advisory notes which apply to different areas across NSW.
These PNF Codes commenced on 2 May 2022.
This Code applies to all forests in northern NSW (north of Sydney; latitude 33° 52’ 02.71 S) except those defined as river red gum forests or cypress and western hardwood forests.
This Code applies to all forests in southern NSW (south of Sydney; latitude 33° 52’ 02.71 S) except those defined as river red gum forests or cypress and western hardwood forests.
This Code applies to river red gum forests which are forests dominated by eucalyptus camaldulensis and consistent with the description of Forest Type 199 (River Red Gum) in Research Note No. 17, Forest Types in NSW.

The Private Native Forestry advisory notes have been prepared to help landholders and forestry contractors meet their requirements under the Codes of Practice. These notes provide information on threatened species, cultural heritage and biodiversity.
Certain forest features such as habitat trees, wetlands, old growth and rainforest must be protected from potential harm caused by forestry operations. These advisory notes also provide advice and guidance on how to ensure these features are protected and conserved.
