Climate Change Adaptation Strategy
NSW is already experiencing the impacts of climate change. Most recently these have included the unprecedented cycle of heatwaves, droughts, bushfires, storms and floods. We need to adapt now to protect the things we value most.

Adaptation saves lives, homes, livelihoods, and ecosystems. That’s why the NSW Government has created the NSW Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. It will help prepare the state to manage climate change impacts and risks through four priority areas:
- Develop robust and trusted metrics and information on climate change risk
- Complete climate change risk and opportunity assessments
- Develop and deliver adaptation action plans
- Embed climate change adaptation in NSW Government decision making.
The NSW Government has a strong track record on adaptation. Government has already committed over $900 million in funding to adaptation and resilience programs between 2017-2022 and major adaptation programs have been in place since before 2017. These programs include flood and bushfire risk management, local level climate change projections, information and resources on how to adapt and much more.
