About this location
The Dunedoo Development Group secured a State Government Grant of AUD95,000 at the end of 2019 to have the Silos painted and become part of the ‘Australian Art Silo Trail’. The Grain Silos were opened in 1936 and were closed by Graincorp, along with 72 other silos in NSW, in 2014. The Silo is now privately owned by a local farmer, Mr Brett Yeo.
The artist commissioned to paint the silos was Mr Peter Mortimore and his wife Carolyn (nee Nott, who grew up in Dunedoo).
The eastern side depicts local jockey Hugh Bowman (with his winning gesture- ‘She’s Apples’ ) with the mighty Winx and trainer Chris Waller. On the southern and western side the silo depicts our Dunedoo and District local rural landscape including Black Swans flying overhead (Dunedoo is derived from the Wiradjuri language for Black Swan). The Silo Art is due for completion at the end of October 2020 and is a major attraction right in the centre of town.
