The Old Mill was built in 1848 by Mr J. Morley for Flood and Hanley as a flour mill, becoming the first flour mill established in Gundagai. Remarkably, the building has survived every major flood to strike the town, including the devastating floods of 1852, 1853, 1870, and 1925. Although the fierce torrents punched holes through parts of the walls, the repaired sections remain visible today as reminders of the mill's resilience. The Old Mill stands as a lasting tribute to Joseph Morley, whose solid stone foundations enabled the structure to endure generations of natural disasters. Today, it is recognised as the oldest building in Gundagai and the only surviving structure from the original township that once stood on the river flat.
