Chair’s Communique 31st Mar 2015
It is anticipated to be a busy year for the Telco Authority as we implement many of the key projects and initiatives developed throughout last year.
The most significant of these projects is the finalisation of the NSW Government Operational Communications Strategy. The strategy is being developed in consultation with industry leaders and NSW Government agencies, which will ensure that the best outcome for the NSW Government is achieved. We look forward to presenting the final strategy to Government in 2015.
A significant part of the February Board meeting was dedicated to finalising the 2015/16 Corporate Plan prior to submission to the Minister for comment. It is anticipated that the sector-wide representative Business and Strategy Group will be provided with an opportunity to review the Plan and provide comment.
The Board was updated on the recent finalisation of new backhaul arrangements for the Government Radio Network. These new arrangements will be progressively rolled out throughout 2015 resulting in improved service availability for network users and providing a foundation for further innovation.
The Board was also advised that the Authority is undertaking a holistic review of our WHS Management System to ensure that it provides a robust framework for our existing business and is well suited to supporting the role of the Authority in the delivery of the government’s reform agenda.
Lastly, on behalf of the Board I would like to welcome Simon Smith as the new Chief Executive of OFS, and look forward to developing and maintaining a constructive relationship with the new Chief Executive. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank John Hubby for his ongoing support of the Telco Authority through his time as both acting Chief Executive of OFS, and for a period as the Acting Managing Director of the Authority.
