Driving change with greener transport
St Clair Community Health Centre is leading the way with two new electric vehicles (EV), helping staff provide faster, safer, and more sustainable care to patients.

The vehicles follow a successful trial in 2024, when a short-term loan EV tested charging infrastructure and gathered staff feedback. With the trial proving valuable, St Clair was chosen as the first permanent site for EVs due to its secure facilities, central location, and proximity to an EV charger.
The EVs help staff save time, reduce fatigue, and support a healthier environment for patients and the community.
Physiotherapist Michael Harbouki, who regularly uses the vehicles for home visits, said the upgrade has made a noticeable difference.
“The new technology, including 360-degree cameras, makes driving easier and safer. It’s so time efficient. We no longer need to stop for petrol because the cars are always charged and ready to go,” says Michael.
Michael also praised Google Maps integration for real-time traffic updates, cooler cabin temperatures on long drives, and the quiet, smooth ride—all of which help clinicians stay focused and comfortable throughout the day.
Cameron Haywood, Business Operations Manager, Total Asset Management, said the new cars help reduce the District’s carbon footprint.
“EVs produce zero emissions, helping improve air quality and support a healthier community. Our staff are showing that sustainability and quality patient care can go hand in hand.”
“We’re helping the LHD reduce emissions in line with the Net Zero Government Operations Policy. Moving to electric vehicles also means we’re saving on petrol, and it’s been a practical way for us to support our Green Travel KPI in the Sustainability Plan,” says Cameron.
By adopting greener transport, St Clair is leading the way in sustainable, high-quality care, supporting clinician wellbeing, improving service delivery, and contributing to a cleaner future for all.
