Catherine joined Nepean in 1998, helping establish the cancer psychiatry position when the Centre first opened.
“It’s been incredible to see how this role has become such an important part of cancer services in Western Sydney,” reflects Catherine.
Her work has always been deeply patient-focused, supporting individuals through some of life’s most challenging moments.
“I’m still fascinated by every patient’s unique story. Even after all these years, hearing how people describe their experiences continues to inspire me.”
While Catherine is retiring from Nepean, she’s excited to pass the baton to a promising young psychiatrist, confident the role is in capable hands.
Looking ahead, Catherine plans to pursue her lifelong passion for writing and hopes to self-publish the stories and donate proceeds to charity.
“I want to take a writers’ course and create a collection of hospital ghost stories—something inspired by those quiet, mysterious moments during night shifts,” she shares.
Beyond writing, Catherine is looking forward to spending more time gardening and with loved ones.
“I’m very grateful to have worked alongside such a terrific group of people. It’s been a wonderful place to grow and learn.”
