Supporting global talent at Nepean Hospital
Nepean Hospital has celebrated a major milestone in medical workforce development with the graduation of its first cohort from the Workplace Based Assessment Program, a key initiative supporting International Medical Graduates on their journey to becoming registered doctors in Australia.

The program offers a structured 12-month pathway for International Medical Graduates to meet Australian Medical Council requirements while gaining hands-on experience in a supportive hospital environment.
The first cohort, Dr Diogenes Pangwi, Dr Dinithi Samarasinghe, Dr Maaeda Amerjee, and Dr Buddhini Gunatilaka, successfully completed the program in June 2025.
Dr Dinithi Samarasinghe, reflected on the supportive nature of the program.
“It’s been incredibly rewarding to contribute to patient care while working towards registration. I’m grateful to the team at Nepean for their guidance and encouragement,” says Dinithi.
Currently, 10 candidates are enrolled in the program, with the second cohort expected to complete their assessments in January 2026. The program not only supports international doctors in their professional journey but also strengthens the quality and continuity of care for the local community.
Milind Rawal, Director of Medical Services at Nepean Hospital, says the program is helping to build a stronger, more diverse medical workforce.
“This initiative enhances our clinical capacity while embracing the diverse perspectives international doctors bring to patient care. It’s a win for both our workforce and our community,” says Milind.
This Workplace Based Assessment Program is part of Nepean Hospital’s broader strategy to foster clinical excellence and workforce development across the region. By supporting global talent, Nepean Hospital is helping shape a healthcare system that reflects the diversity and needs of the community it serves.
