Project overview
The NSW Government has now committed an additional $250 million to start major construction on the priority eastern section of the Bandon Road Corridor Upgrade and Extension, between Windsor Road and the new intersection being built east of Wallace Road at Vineyard.
This new commitment is in addition to funds previously committed for planning, and delivery of early safety works as follows:
- $75 million NSW Government
- $75 million Australian Government
This brings the total State Government investment to $325 million.
Key features that will be delivered in the priority eastern section are:
- a new four lane divided road between Windsor Road and a new intersection east of Wallace Road with a wide central median to improve road safety and allow for future widening
- an off-road shared path for pedestrians and cyclists
- an upgrade and realignment of the existing flood evacuation route on Wallace and Bandon roads
- a new southern connection road that connects the upgraded Bandon Road to Hamilton Street and Riverstone Parade
Planning continues for the progress of the other sections of the Bandon Road Corridor, along with construction of the early safety work near Vineyard Station, to be completed by the end of 2026.
The Bandon Road Corridor Upgrade and Extension will support future housing, employment areas and connect communities. It will reduce congestion, enhance traffic efficiency, improve road and rail safety, and provide additional shared walking and cycling paths, making it easier to move in and around North West Sydney.
The project has also been designed to improve flood resilience, with plans for three new bridges and upgrades to strengthen the Regional Flood Evacuation Route to support safer, more reliable access during flood events.
The Bandon Road Upgrade and Extension is part of the North West Growth Area Road Network Strategy, making it easier to move in and around the North West.
News and updates
On 19 July the NSW Government announced an additional $250 million in funding to fast-track the start of major construction on the priority eastern section of the Bandon Road Corridor Upgrade and Extension.
Construction on this priority section is expected to commence by September 2027.
Transport recently invited comment from the community on the Concept Design and Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the Bandon Road Upgrade and Extension project. Thank you for your feedback which will inform the next stage of design. We are now in the process of reviewing and considering all comments and will develop a submissions report which will be available on this webpage when complete.
For further information, please see REF documents, design plans, artist’s impressions and the interactive map on this page.
The construction contract for the Bandon Road Early Works near Vineyard Train Station was awarded in March 2026, works commenced on 28 April 2026.
Please note, there will be no parking available near the corner of Bandon Road and Riverstone Parade during construction. Please make alternative arrangements. For more information, please refer to the project updates below.
Features include:
- A new commuter car park with more than 70 parking spaces for motorists using train services at Vineyard Station with vehicle access off Riverstone Parade.
- Accessible parking and improved bus stop facilities for northbound and southbound services.
- Intersection improvements for all road users and a pedestrian refuge for improved crossing of Riverstone Parade.
- New road kerbs and around 150 metres of new pedestrian footpaths.
- New lighting, stormwater drainage, line marking and wayfinding signage.
- Landscaping with garden beds and low growth vegetation.
We are continuing field investigations and carrying out additional investigations on private properties and roads near the proposed Bandon Road upgrades, including the southern connection.
We will be working on and around Bandon, Wallace, Dulwich, Ashford, St James and Camberwell Roads, Riverstone Parade and Hamilton and O’Connell Streets at Vineyard. Please see the project updates section below for further details.
As part of Bandon Road Corridor Upgrade and Extension project, Transport is proposing a southern connection road that connects the upgraded Bandon Road to Hamilton Street and Riverstone Parade, via Camberwell Road at Vineyard.
The southern connection provides an improved flood evacuation route to Hamilton Street and access to the train station.
This southern connection was first raised during the 2016 community consultation on the Bandon Road Preferred Corridor.
Transport has been working closely with the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, the NSW Reconstruction Authority, State Emergency Services, and both Blacktown and Hawkesbury City Councils.
