After your Travel Plan has been created, it is necessary to refine and maintain it using internal feedback. This ensures the travel plan's continued engagement, utilisation and implementation.
Steps to maintaining a Travel Plan
Complete
Complete the Travel Plan template (PDF 1.37MB) to present to stakeholders, both internal and external. This will be useful in engagement and marketing with employees, students or customers, and to make tracking of impacts and evaluation of outcomes easier.
Review
Review the Travel Plan every 12 to 24 months using the Travel Plan Review (PDF 238.12KB). To make valid comparisons between results, the travel survey should be conducted at approximately the same time each year, and the survey questions should not change significantly. Here are some tips for your review:
- Assess progress to meeting targets, meeting needs and outcomes. In other words, are we achieving what we set out to achieve, or do we need to revisit this?
- Keep track of the financial and personnel resource cost of the Travel Plan. In other words, are we achieving our goals efficiently?
- Determine the effectiveness of individual activities. In other words, are the activities delivering the intended impacts, or do we need to collect additional data to assist with this?
- Identify where resource allocations should be increased or decreased.
- Evaluate potential future activity.
- Report on successes.
Report
Report on progress. If the Travel Plan is a condition of consent it is recommended to check with the relevant planning authority to understand the reporting requirements. Planning authorities are likely to require evidence of a Travel Plan with regular reports on progress (typically annually).
Re-assess
Re-assess your Travel Plan based on the engagement, feedback and reviews undertaken. Our case studies show how organisations have maintained and improved upon their travel plans after creation.
