The NSW Department of Education provides support materials for home schooling parents to develop their educational program. You can find NSW Curriculum resources, syllabus overviews, outcome summaries and sample case studies.

Home schooling has moved to NSW Department of Education

The regulation of home schooling in NSW has moved from NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to the NSW Department of Education, in line with the announcement by the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Prue Car.

Home schooling applicants may access a range of department resources for children and parents.

Support for developing your program

The NSW Department of Education provides resources to support applicants when preparing educational programs. Programs must be based on and taught in accordance with the relevant NESA syllabuses as determined by the Education Act 1990.

Further support material will become available with the release of other new syllabuses as part of NSW Curriculum Reform.

NESA syllabuses

NESA is updating syllabuses in line with the Curriculum Reform agenda. 

The Curriculum Reform for home schooling parents website provides:

  • advice to support home schooling parents meet the curriculum requirements of registration
