For Task 2, imagine that you are the student who stayed with Markus. He has posted the blog below based on his exchange with a different family in Melbourne. You decide to write a blog about your experiences with his family in Germany.

In your blog refer specifically to Markus, his family, school and the town where you stayed using information from his blog.

Mein Aufenthalt in Australien

Grüβ Dich. Ich heiβe Markus. Ich habe drei Monate in den westlichen Vororten von Melbourne verbracht, wo ich in einer relativ kleinen Wohnung lebte. Ich weiβ nicht, warum alle Leute so verrückt auf Australien sind. Mein Wohnort war ein richtiges Kaff und die ganze Zeit hat es nur geschüttert! Es war alles ganz anders als zu Hause, wo ich in einem kleinen Dorf ungefähr 15 Minuten von Xxxxx wohne mit meinem Vater, meiner Mutter, meinem kleinen Bruder und den Tieren. Die Schule in Australien war ganz locker und nicht besonders anstrengend. Die Lehrer waren erstaunlich nett und hilfsbereit, und ich habe es richtig genossen, mehr Zeit am Wochenende mit meinen neuen Freunden zu haben und zu chillen. Interessanterweise war es einfacher hier neue Leute kennenzulernen als bei mir zu Hause.

Das Essen zu Hause ist ganz anders als hier. Meine Mutter ist eine fantastische Köchin und ich genieβe besonders die regionale Küche.

Hier sieht man mich auf einem Fahrrad in der Stadt. Das Bild erinnert mich an meinen Gastbruder aus Sydney der letztes Jahr bei uns war. Du wirst es nicht glauben, aber er konnte nicht radfahren!

Ich denke jetzt oft an ihn. Zuerst habe ich wenig Zeit mit ihm verbracht. Aber sein Deutsch war so miserabel und ich bin nicht besonders geduldig. Ich glaube, er fand die Schule am Anfang recht schwierig und das Essen ungewöhnlich.

(In Sydney iβt man nur Fastfood, glaube ich!) Aber es wurde immer besser, und am Schluss wäre er gerne noch länger geblieben.

Context

Students would have studied approximately 200 hours of the German course. They are assumed to be competent in communicating ideas and information. They have knowledge of past, present and future tenses, and relevant vocabulary. Students are aware of the language and culture of German speaking communities.
