What this provision does
This provision allows students to use an alternative calculator, such as a talking calculator or large button calculator.
Who this provision is for
Students with a vision impairment or a medical condition such as Cerebral Palsy who have difficulty using a calculator.
How it works on the day
Approved calculators may be used only in HSC exams where calculators are permitted. The calculator must be checked by the supervisor before each exam.
What supporting information is needed
Examples of supporting information for this provision include:
- NESA Medical form, usually including a diagnosis of a related condition or disability
- NESA Teacher Comments form, relevant to the course that the calculator is needed
- Student declaration.

Schools can find forms and templates for most types of supporting information through the Schools Online platform. They will print out the relevant forms and give them to students, parents or caregivers as needed.
