What this provision does
This provision allows examiners or markers of oral and performance exams to be informed of a student’s specific needs before the exam. This helps them make appropriate adjustments. For example, an examiner may position themselves so a student who relies on lip‑reading has a clear view.
This provision doesn't change the application of the marking guidelines. Students approved for this provision are marked using the same guidelines as other students.
Who this provision is for
This provision is usually for students with a medical, hearing or vision impairment who are required to complete oral or performance exams. For example, it might be relevant for a student who:
- relies on lip reading
- has a stutter
- is unable to maintain eye contact.
How it works on the day
The examiners or markers will have information from NESA about how to accommodate the student’s needs.
The provision doesn't change the way the markers award marks. Markers will mark the student using the same marking guidelines as other students.
What supporting information is needed
Examples of supporting information for this provision include:
- NESA Medical form, usually including a diagnosis of a related condition or disability
- NESA Vision form, usually including a diagnosis of a related condition or disability
- NESA Hearing form, usually including a diagnosis of a related condition or disability
- NESA Examiner/Marker Aware form, completed by the relevant subject teacher
- NESA Teacher Comments form
- Student declaration.
