Steel wire ropes
Seizing process of wire rope
A guide for how to seize wire rope.
It is important to seize the end of a wire rope before it is cut. You can seize by way of:
- soft wire
- marlin twine
- fibreglass tape.

Then after cutting apply:
- suitable clamps, or
- brazing.
Particularly in the case of non-rotating ropes, seizing will prevent the inner layer moving relative to the outer layers. This is critical as the rope can become unbalanced, and can result in bird caging and diminished rope life.
