Hoist positioning and floor landing gate

Hoist positioning
The installation design drawings should always provide a position the hoist needs to be located in. This is usually the centre of the mast to the nearest grid lines.
Where this is not provided the hoist will need to be positioned to meet the requirements for the gap between the hoist car and landing.
The landing could be:
- the slab edge
- scaffold edge
- hoist platform.
The diagram below shows the maximum and minimum allowable gaps depending on whether the hoist is fitted with a drop plate or not:

Floor landing gate
Each construction hoist requires gates on all the floors it services.
The gate system must be at least 2.0m high for personnel hoists and 1.8m high for materials hoists.
Any area that is accessible and within 800mm of the hoist must also be enclosed to the same height as the required gates.
Gates must be installed so that there is a maximum distance of 150mm from gate to edge of landing. This is so no one can stand between the gate and the hoist car with the hoist car then being able to raise or lower.
