Program objective
The Program aims to:
- mitigate financial barriers to the delivery of parking for shared devices.
- provide authorities an upfront funding source to support delivery of necessary infrastructure and education programs, to effectively integrate sharing schemes into the local transport network.
- promote and enable micromobility as a safe, accessible, and sustainable transport option in NSW.
- improve safety outcomes for riders, pedestrians, and the wider community.
- reduce the impact of shared devices on urban amenity and the environment.
- enable costs of operating services to be appropriately distributed, ensuring any new regulatory approach represents value.
- enable Transport and the NSW Government to quantify the total investment across the state into infrastructure to support sharing scheme services.
This program is administered by Transport for NSW.
Eligibility
Who can apply
To be eligible to apply for a grant, organisations must:
- ensure the application has been prepared by and is being submitted by an eligible applicant
- be an authority as defined in Schedule 7 of the Road Transport (General) Amendment (Micromobility Shared Arrangements) Regulation 2026
- have a sharing scheme operating or planned to operate in their jurisdiction (for planned rollout - a proposal from the Operator is suitable as supporting evidence)
- not previously received funding from any other NSW Grant program or via a Memorandum of Understanding directly with an Operator for the proposed works
- confirm that projects can be delivered within 6 months of the funding deed commencing
- accept funded infrastructure will be operated and maintained beyond the funding period by the applicant
- notify the Department if grant funding is secured from another source.
Types of projects funded under this grant
Off street/on footpath dedicated marked shared device parking bay
- Full installation of line marking including pre-installation planning
- Using stencil designed by Transport (unless otherwise agreed upon)
On-street dedicated marked shared device parking bay
- Full installation of line marking including pre-installation planning
- Using stencil designed by Transport (unless otherwise agreed upon)
- Provision and installation of Regulatory signage
- Physical barriers
Bike racks, or other physical infrastructure
- Bike racks
- Hardstand designated parking bays
Minor works
- Mobility ramps, kerb buildouts, rails, bollards
Wayfinding
- Signage to locate dedicated parking bays and directional signage/decals
Community education programs/ initiatives
- Community education and awareness programs that promote improved rider behaviours and support safe, compliant, and inclusive riding and parking.
- This may include (but is not limited to) paid advertising, signage, learn to ride courses delivered in partnership with operator/s.
- Education/awareness initiatives must use Transport approved messaging (unless otherwise agreed upon).
Who can’t apply
Works that have already received alternate funding are not eligible under this Program. Applicants must declare that they have not secured funding for the proposed works directly from operators, through a Memorandum of Understanding, or through other grants or government sources, excluding regulated fee-per-trip revenue.
What co-contributions are required
No co-contribution is required from an applicant.

Prepare your application with this checklist
The Program will use a demand-driven / ‘first-in, first-served’ approach.
This means that applications will be assessed in the order they are received and those that satisfy both the eligibility criteria and the assessment criteria, will be approved up to the maximum value of $200,000 (ex. GST) for planned works per application.
Applicants can submit a maximum of one application at a time but may apply multiple times for funding to the program, unless in the case of claiming retrospective funding, where only one submission for works completed will be assessed and funded. This means an applicant must not be awaiting an outcome of an application or be completing works and acquittal of a grant (to the satisfaction of Transport) before submitting a further application.
Authorities may only submit only one application for retrospective funding. Retrospective funding applications must be completed before an additional request for planned works may be lodged. There is no pre-defined cap on funding for retrospective funding, however, funding is subject to the requirements in the NSW Sharing Scheme Grant Guidelines.

- Complete and submit your application via the SmartyGrants portal, including required documentation.
Where templates are provided, these will be mandatory.
Address the eligibility criteria
Each applicant, as part of an application response, must confirm that they meet the eligibility criteria.
Applicants that do not address the eligibility criteria in full may be excluded from the application process at the department's discretion.

Authorities can only submit only one application for retrospective funding. This must be in a separate application to any applications for planned works.

Eligibility assessment
Transport will perform an initial eligibility check on applications received against the eligibility criteria.
Applications will be reviewed against the criteria on a pass/fail basis, and a failure on one eligibility criterion shall lead to failure overall.
Only applications deemed eligible will progress for panel assessment.
Assessment of grant applications
The Program is a demand-driven, ‘first-in, first-served’ grant.
This means that applications that satisfy stated assessment criteria are approved up to the maximum value.
Applicants should ensure they provide clear and relevant information in their application at time of initial submission.
Applications that do not clearly and sufficiently respond to the criteria will be deemed ineligible and will not be given the opportunity to provide additional information. If a response is unclear, an application may be deemed ineligible for funding and other applications submitted subsequentially may be considered for funding first.
Assessment criteria and approach
Applications will be assessed against the assessment criteria outlined in as a ‘pass / fail’. Each application will be independently assessed against each of the assessment criteria, based on the quality and supporting evidence provided.

The assessment approach will be applied consistently across all applications, and assessment outcomes will be subject to appropriate governance and moderation processes to ensure fairness and robustness.
Notification of application outcome
Applicants will be notified in writing on the outcome of their application within six weeks from application submission. Successful applicants will receive details of the funding offer, with the funding deed to be signed and executed.
