Barwon–Darling Floodplain Management

What’s this about?

The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is reviewing the floodplain management plan for the Barwon–Darling Valley Floodplain and is seeking your feedback.

NSW floodplain management plans are valid for 10 years from their commencement date. The plans set the rules for flood work development on floodplains in rural areas, including what type of flood works can be constructed and where. 

Under the Water Management Act 2000, floodplain management plans must be reviewed in the 5 years before they expire to ensure they continue to effectively support the needs of communities, landholders and the environment.

While an initial review was undertaken in 2022 under previous legislative requirements, this is an opportunity to provide feedback on how the plan is working and whether it can be improved.

The department will consider all submissions and publish a review report with the findings on its Barwon-Darling Valley floodplain page. The review report will be used to inform the replacement plan.
