Department of Climate, Change, Energy, the Environment and Water
What’s this about?
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is reviewing and updating the Namoi long-term water plan. We are seeking feedback from communities, stakeholders and Aboriginal peoples.
Long-term water plans guide how environmental water is managed across 9 NSW Murray-Darling Basin catchments.
The plans set:
- long-term objectives
- targets
- water requirements.
These support the health of:
- rivers
- wetlands
- floodplains
and the ecosystems and communities that depend on them.
The Murray-Darling Basin Plan requires these plans to be reviewed every 5 years.
Reviewing the Namoi long-term water plan ensures it reflects the latest scientific, climate and environmental knowledge, as well as stakeholder feedback.
The review includes stronger engagement with Aboriginal communities and consideration of Aboriginal knowledge, values and objectives.
The department will consider all submissions received during consultation. Your feedback will:
- help inform the final plan
- guide the management of environmental water in the Namoi catchment over the next 20 years.
