The $165 million NSW Government project delivered a modern, fit-for-purpose facility to support high-quality healthcare for the Goulburn community.
In 2019, enabling works were completed, including a new Community Mental Health building and Key Health Worker Accommodation.
In 2021, a new 4-storey Clinical Services Building opened on the hospital campus. It included purpose-built clinical spaces such as a new Emergency Department, Medical Imaging Department, Intensive Care Unit, Perioperative Units, Inpatient Units, a Maternal and Newborn Unit, and carparks.
The new main entry, carpark and Springfield Place – Heritage Exhibition space opened in December 2022, marking the completion of the main works.
Final works included renovating and refurbishing parts of the original hospital, transferring services into new spaces, and completing landscaping. These were completed in June 2024.

The NSW Government is pleased to announce that the $165 million Goulburn Hospital and Health Service redevelopment is now complete, providing improved healthcare for communities across the Goulburn region.

Local Aboriginal culture celebrated in new artwork
A new artwork celebrating the rich Aboriginal culture of the Goulburn-Mulwaree region has been unveiled as part of the Goulburn Hospital and Health Service Redevelopment.

Project information
The Goulburn Hospital Redevelopment delivered a fit-for-purpose facility to improve healthcare for the Goulburn region, meeting the current and future needs of the local community.
Benefits
The project:
- Brought health services together to improve access to care.
- Helped attract and keep high-quality staff by creating a workplace that supports excellence in clinical practice.
- Delivered economic and social benefits for Goulburn and surrounding communities through jobs, skills development, and local spending—during construction and ongoing operations.
Scope
The project included:
A new 4-storey Clinical Services Building with:
- a main entry and hospital reception
- an Emergency Department
- a Medical Imaging Department
- an Intensive Care Unit
- operating theatres, day surgery and recovery areas
- inpatient units for medical, surgical, paediatric, rehabilitation and geriatric care, including designated palliative care beds
- a Maternity Unit and birthing suite, plus ambulatory paediatric and antenatal clinics
- improved on-site car parking
- an extension to the Community Health Building for Community Mental Health services.
Final works delivered:
- ambulatory outpatient services, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, Hospital in the Home, wound clinics, stress testing and audiometry
- oncology services
- Aboriginal health services
- a Transitional Living Unit (delivered by the Local Health District)
- a new MRI service
- upgraded parking on Albert Street to support renal, oncology and outpatient services
- staff workspaces
- a new Clinical Training Facility for The Australian National University, funded by the Australian Government and delivered as part of the hospital redevelopment.
