How to voluntarily surrender or suspend your registration
You may need to surrender or suspend your registration, for example if you’re changing employment status.
To do this you will need to:
- visit our online portal and register or login, and
- provide a reason for requesting a voluntary suspension or cancellation, and
- include a future date, within your current registration period, for your request to take effect.
This request can only be applied up until the end of your current registration period.
Visit our online portal to complete the form.
Complying development notification
If you receive an application for complying development in a metropolitan area, you’re required to notify certain neighbours 14 days before it’s determined.
Visit What to tell your neighbours to find templates for certifiers and applicants.
Written direction under the EP&A Act
For some non-compliances, you are required to issue a Written direction under the EP&A Act. Use with the Guidelines for written directions notices.
Professional indemnity insurance certificate of currency
To maintain your certifier registration, you must provide proof of professional indemnity insurance.
You will need to request a certificate of currency, on a company letterhead, from your insurer.
You must send it to Building Commission NSW in time to allow at least 7 days before your insurance is due to expire. We will email you to remind you. You can submit the certificate via the Change of Details application form in the online portal.
The certificate must include:
- insurance company name
- confirmation that the insurance is professional indemnity insurance and covers statutory liability for certifiers
- policy number
- name of the insured
- whether the policy is for an individual, partnership, or company
- policy start and end dates
- retroactive date
- the maximum amount the insurer will pay for claims (and whether it is inclusive or exclusive of relevant expenses such as legal fees) in respect of any one claim, and in any one year
- the professions that the policy covers
- confirmation that the insurance has been issued.
