Sumo data breach
Sumo have reported a cybersecurity breach where unauthorised access was gained to their servers via a third-party file storage application.
The NSW Government acknowledges the cyber incident affecting Sumo, an Australian electrical, gas and internet provider.
Sumo reported the incident to the OAIC in May, claiming that customer data was accessed by an unknown person, via a third-party file storage application.
Sumo have since investigated and assessed the cyber incident and has confirmed that their systems were not affected.
Sumo sent email notifications to over 40,000 people who were impacted, detailing what types of personal information were compromised and what support and advice they can provide. No payment information was accessed in the incident.
If Sumo does not have an impacted customers' email address, or the email address Sumo has is invalid, Sumo will notify the affected customer via letter.
