DV Notify messages
A step-by-step timeline of when messages will be sent to victim-survivors and what information will be in each message.
The timeline below demonstrates how DV Notify works for victim-survivors in the Liverpool Police Area Command, Manning Great-Lake Police District and Orana Mid-Western Police District.
Perpetrator arrested
NSW Police attend a domestic and family violence incident and arrest the perpetrator. The perpetrator is taken into NSW Police custody. NSW Police will tell victim-survivors that they will get messages from DV Notify.
First message from DV Notify
Victim-survivors will get their first message from DV Notify. The message will outline what the service is and when messages will be received. Victim-survivors can also choose to stop receiving messages from DV Notify by clicking the link in this message.
Leaving the service
If victim-survivors choose to stop getting messages from DV Notify, unfortunately they are not able to re-join DV Notify to start receiving messages again.
Victim-survivors will get messages from DV Notify if they happen to be involved any other domestic and family violence incidents involving the same or another perpetrator.
Second message
In the event that a perpetrator is released while the matter is ongoing, the next message victim-survivors may get will be to tell them there is important information about the perpetrator.
Victim-survivors will be able to click a secure link in the message to confirm they are ready to get the information about the perpetrator. If victim-survivors do not click or are unable to click on the secure link within 20 minutes of getting it, the message will automatically be sent to them.
This message can be sent at anytime, day or night, as custody releases can happen 24/7. DV Notify sends messages the moment a perpetrator is released and as such does not give information to victim-survivors ahead of time.
Release message
The next message will give victim-survivors more details about the perpetrators custody release. A perpetrator could be released from:
- A NSW Police station in Liverpool Police Area Command, Manning Great-Lakes Police District or Orana Mid-Western Police District
- Corrections NSW
- Local Court
Victim-survivors will only receive this message if the perpetrator has been released from custody.
Support services
Within the message about the perpetrator's release or if they receive a Intensive Correction Orders or custodial sentence, victim-survivors will find a link which details a range of local and crisis support services. Support services can help victim-survivors immediately by helping them seek safety, find emergency accommodation, transport and among other things. Some support services can also support victim-survivors long term.
A list of support services can be found here. Please check support service opening hours as some are open 24/7 and others only during business hours.
Matter finished
Victim-survivors will get a message letting them know that the domestic and family violence matter has finished and they won't receive any other messages from DV Notify about this matter.
Referral to Victims Register
If a perpetrator gets a Intensive Correction Order or a custodial sentence, victim-survivors will receive a final message with information about Victims Register. Victim-survivors can follow the link in the message to register for the Victims Register. Victim-survivors can continue to get updates on the perpetrator such as their parole dates and other prison events, once victim-survivors are registered with the service.
