Tamworth project celebrates NAIDOC Week
About 40 people gathered in the cultural garden at Tamworth Hospital on 10 July to celebrate NAIDOC Week and to learn more about the new mental health unit as it nears completion.
Guests heard from Project Director Lachlan Falconer-Adams, a proud Kamilaroi man, who provided an update on the project’s progress and spoke to the relationship the team has built with Community over the project’s lifecycle. He thanked the Community for its contribution to the cultural design aspects of the facility.
Adding a beautiful touch of culture and creativity, Gamilaroi artist Amy Hammond showed the group some of her
intricately woven butterflies — just one of the unique artworks being created by local artists for the unit.
Amy’s pieces are set to brighten the main entry atrium, turning it into a space that feels inviting and peaceful for visitors and patients alike.
After Amy’s yarn, guests were taken onto the construction site to have a close look at the atrium, which features a central staircase.
The event was hosted by Health Infrastructure, Hunter New England Local Health District and builder Hansen Yuncken.
