Can you tell us about Identity.NSW’s purpose?
Our purpose is to build a trusted, safe, and secure digital experience that allows people in NSW to prove who they are online, while minimising the amount of private information they need to share. I believe this will revolutionise the way people use digital services, as well as ensuring that strong security and privacy are always top priorities.
Can you tell us about the NSW Digital ID program?
The Digital Identity and Verifiable Credentials (DIVC) program originated from the NSW Government's vision to deliver a world-leading digital identity solution for people in NSW.
The program aims to put in place all the elements required for people in NSW to validate and share their identity and credentials digitally. It will also provide the policy and legislative framework for NSW Government entities (including Education and Health) to effectively use and support people's digital identity and credentials.
How does this benefit the people of NSW?
Our audiance is wide-ranging, from people and businesses in NSW, to NSW government agencies, institutions, and community organisations.
For people in NSW, a key benefit includes being able to access services faster and with less effort by removing the need to deal with paper or to verify their eligibility in-person.
NSW businesses, institutions and community organisations will benefit from the NSW Digital Id hub and its ecosystem. Establishment of the state digital asset will also create cost saving opportunities and a better experience for customers.
The NSW government will benefit through a drive towards increasing its capabilities in areas like fraud and identity compromise prevention, as well as enhancements in uptake and scale of digital services and cyber security.
What achievements are you most proud of?
The establishment of the new DIVC team within Digital.NSW. The team incorporates five key streams including Program Management, Trust Assurance, Engagement and Partnerships, Product Delivery and Legislation and Policy. Each area is critical in building the ecosystem that will offer secure solutions, driven by customer needs and consent.
Also, the fact that we are on track to realise the vision for the first stage of the program, which is to deliver new and improved government services, integrate with the private sector, enable single sign-on, common identity and trusted credentials across NSW Government, as well as building the NSW Digital Id hub and NSW Digital Wallet.
Lastly, I am proud that the team has continued to progress and overcome the challenges that come with pioneering a world-leading program, allowing us to steam ahead into the next phase of innovation.
